Handle Bars
I have had several questions about the handle bars.
So I thought it was worth a page, first you will notice
through out my pictures at different stages of the bike you will see different forks and or triple tree's on the bike.
The forks and headsets I am working are ,1977 GS750 front
end , You see that on the bike in the pictures with the front 19 inch spoke wheel mounted.
1988 Honda Shadow 1100 , these are a heavier fork but they
are also longer , you see these on the bike when the smaller 17 inch GSXR wheel is on the front.
And finally the front end I will hopefully use , 2003 GSXR1100
front end with the 17 inch GSXR wheel , You wont see these forks on the bike yet, I have to turn down the neck some to fit
it and machine the bearing races. It is a job but I think it will work , least on paper it works.
These bars are my mock up bars , old bars I tooled around with the get what I wanted, this picture shows
how they pull back and not so much rise.
For the handle bars , I wanted a straight Drag Bar, The
problem with this was running straight bars would not allow me any room to drop the forks through the top plate, the forks
would hit the handle bars.
I looked at the typical dog bone risers and other risers
for the 7/8 handle bars and could not find anything I liked..
The dog bones are alloy but they are big and bulky looking
, and the point of the straight bars is to keep the handle bars low and tight to the tank.
So I needed to pull the bars back more than I needed to
rise them.
What I ended up doing is using 31 inch Drag Bars and I took
the O.E.M GS Bars and cut two 1.5 inch risers then I cut a 4.5 inch piece to conect the risers and give me a mounting source.
It came out great and put the bars right where I needed
them.
Ugly I know, but I'll finish them off sand blast them and paint them the color
of the bike..
They can be used as a rise also if needed, This front end in this picture is the
Shadow front end btw.
The spike handle bar ends you see in the pictures are actually axle spikes, they
wouldn't my front axle but they fit right on the bars.
