The GS is starting to take shape (above) the rear section is all welded together

At this point I need to make gussets for support get those welded in then cut the OEM swing arm / sway bar out of the frame and trim up the bars of the rear section , I left them longer then needed to give me options.

Then I can start on cutting the back bone down to narrow it for twin tanks

The tank on my 750 was rusted up inside and out , so I needed to find a new tank(s)

With no luck finding a tank in any better shape than the one I have I started looking into making a different tank(s) fit this bike.

I ended up with a set of 5 GAL. tanks for a Harley FXST MODELS 1984-99

The trouble with this was the back bone on the GS is 3 bars wide making the 5 GAL tanks much much wider than they should be ,  what I had to do was cut the two outer supports out and double them up on top of each other rather than side by side this narrowed the frame so that the tanks almost touch each other when installed

(Below) shows the frame and where I will have to cut.

In this picture you can see 2 of the three bars your looking at the center bar and the left hand side bar , I need to remove the Left and Right side bar leaving only the center bar.

In the picture the arrows show where the cuts need to be made and the red line shows the direction of the cut.

cutting this part of the framr you will have cut one side off them use that piece to flip over and weld under the center bar IMPORTANT to cut one side wled center then cut other side , if you cut both sides at once before welding the center bar up the head unit cn move around and get your front wheel off center.

This is hard to explain I will post several pictures of this area and the cuts made the pictures can pry explain better than words

(BELOW) Is what I ended up with , A single bar backbone with a vertical support I need to add a gusset and thats about it , also notice towards the rear of the  tank "area"  where the frame was cut out I capped the open tubing with 1" angle iron back filled it with weld and made it all come together , so the tanks fit inside the frame at this point.

Now I am ready to get my tank together and fit it to the frame .
My tank is as I mentioned a 5GAL. HD tank , I am going to weld it together and stretch it about 5" so it is one big ass tank.
